Man! Steve and I went through school together, and I remember him in grade school....he was MY COUSIN !! per my mother...distantly. Therefore, he was special to me, but probably never knew it! How sad that we miss the opportunities to tell people what they mean to us! Miss you, Steve.

I loved you like a brother!  I remember the last time I seen you, was in your Macro truck and you waved good-bye.   Boy, if we didn't have some good times together, but its probably best that I don't let others know.  You have and will always be in heart.  Johnny Whitesides

Obituary:

We wanted to let everyone know that our loving mother Vickie Abernethy went to be with Jesus the afternoon of Saturday, November 25th after a long hard battle with COPD.

Our family is heartbroken. Her absence leaves a huge void in our homes and our families. If you knew her, you know just how special she was.

Per her wishes there will be no formal memorial services. We know this may be hard for some to understand because she was known and loved by so many, but this is what she wanted. She desired all the memories of her to be happy and asked that we all continue sharing her and daddy’s stories. She did request that instead of flowers that donations be made to either Vitas Hospice, which cared for her in her final weeks, or Hospice of Lincoln County, which cared for our dad in his final weeks (details below).

Please be patient with responses to messages as we take time to grieve this enormous loss to our family. Your prayers are always greatly appreciated. Love to you all.

Obituary:
Prayers for the family of 1964 classmate Grace Goodson Arey, who passed away on July 21, 2023. Her husband is Ted Arey and her brother is Robby Goodson, class of 1960. Her Daughter Jennifer Masse wrote the following on her page:

Unfortunately I have some extremely sad news to share with you all.

Mom went into the hospital on Sunday with stomach pain and general stomach bug type symptoms. Well, they admitted her. And ran at least three CT scans over five days… and suddenly discovered on the fourth scan today that she had some sort of obstruction or perforation in her colon. So, they preformed emergency surgery.

Only to find way too much damage to be fixed, which had also sent her into renal failure. With her recent heart surgery, it was all too much.

And my beloved mother and my dad’s beloved wife, passed away July 21, 2023.

I have no other words at the moment. Only shock and grief.

Jennifer's husband is Nathan Masse, and children are Vann and Rylan. They live in Prescott, Arizona. There will be an inurnment service in Lincolnton in October 2023.

Saturday, the 30th would have been Herb’s 71st birthday, he was my best friend, he was every bit my brother. Let me clear something up that I have heard and bothers me a great deal, Herb died of a massive heart attack. We were leaning back on the front fender of my car, making plans for the next day, when he fell over, almost knocking me down. He was gone.  Stress!  My best memory, I have a lot, was “that’s the damn crooked-ist stick I have ever seen” and a little later that night “the moon is ossiscillating”.   Slick, one day we will see that moon ossiscillate again.  I think about you every day, I tell a Herb story just about every week.  I have thought about you a lot today, New Year’s Eve, I love ya brother and I miss ya.
