In 1972, the town of Lincolnton learned of the death of Sgt. Paul H. “Skip” Lawing, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Lawing. Sgt. Lawing, only 22, was killed in Phuoc Tuy, Vietnam, on June 14, 1972.
Lawing was a 1968 graduate of Lincolnton High School, where he was an all conference basketball player and football player.
