LINCOLNTON – Donald Ulysses Hoyle Jr., 75, of Lincolnton passed away January 30, 2020.
Donald was born June 28, 1944 in Lincolnton to the late Donald Ulysses Hoyle Sr. and Mamie Poteat Hoyle. He was a graduate of Lincolnton High School and Catawba Valley Community College, majoring in Furniture Production. He worked his entire career in furniture manufacturing and as a furniture plant owner. He also served with honor in the United States Army serving in Vietnam in the 25th Infantry Division at Chu Chi, South Vietnam and in the 1968 Tet Offensive. Mr. Hoyle was awarded the Purple Heart, two Bronze Stars, and the Army Commendation Medal. His hobbies were owning and rebuilding classic automobiles. He was an avid NASCAR fan and NFL fan. He also enjoyed restoring fine antique furniture. He loved his many animals especially his loyal dog, Minnie.
He was preceded in death by brother Carrol William Hoyle and sisters Clara Hoyle Conner, Ruby Hoyle Crump, Wanda Hoyle Lee, and Murel Hoyle Canipe.
He is survived by a brother Kenneth Ray Hoyle and wife Louella Hoyle; son Donald Michael Hoyle of Lincolnton; daughter Jennifer Hoyle Vincett and husband Matthew Vincett of Rockingham; two grandchildren Henry Michael Vincett and Cynthia Louise Vincett; a number of nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
A graveside service with military honors will be held at Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery on Wesley Chapel Road in Catawba County at a later date.
