Brenda Harris Bates, 75, of Gastonia passed away January 23, 2022. She was born July 14, 1946 in McDowell County, North Carolina, a daughter of the late Von Ray Harris and Eunice Atkins Harris.


Brenda was raised in Lincolnton and was a graduate of Lincolnton High School. She was a Certified Public Accountant and would do anything for anyone. Brenda was a member of New Hope Baptist Church. Brenda loved spending time with her grandchildren and was known as "Nana B" to many. She was a loving sister, mother and grandmother and will be missed by many.


Brenda is survived by her sons, Von Heavner and wife, Ashley of Gastonia, NC, and Jeffrey Heavner and wife, Cathy of Polkton, NC; brother, Ronald Ray Harris and wife, Dottie of Hickory, NC; grandsons, Nicolas Heavner, Nash Heavner, and Dalton Heavner; nephew, Ronald "Buddy" Ray Harris, II; and extended Bates family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 27 years, John T. (J.D.) Bates.           


A graveside service will be held at 12:00 pm in Gaston Memorial Park on Thursday, January 27, 2022 with Rev. Brandon McKoy officiating.


In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to New Hope Baptist Church, 2024 Redbud Dr, Gastonia, NC 28056.
