Mrs. Rosemary Kennedy Barker, age 65, passed away on Thursday, December 23, 2010, after a long illness. She was preceded in death by her parents James Milton Kennedy and Mary Helen Modlin Kennedy, maternal grandparents B.M. and Jessie Dellinger Modlin, all of Lincolnton, paternal grandparents Duncan R. and Beulah Hartsell Kennedy of Oakboro, N.C., aunt, Betty E. Modlin and uncles, William (Bill) W. Modlin and Eugene (Gene) D. Modlin and Robert (Bob) Modlin, all of Lincolnton. She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Leon J. Barker of Lincolnton; two daughters, Melissa L. Barker and Melanie B. Carter, both of Lincolnton; sister and brother-in-law, Sandra K. Dowd and Roy Clinton Dowd, of Metter, Ga.; three grandchildren, Kaitlyn M. Carter, Campbell J. and Carrington R. Barker, all of Lincolnton; nephew, Corey Carpenter, of Metter, Ga.; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Rosa and Dwight Barker of Roaring River, N.C. and their many beloved family members. Mrs. Barker was a native of Albemarle, N.C., and lived in Oakboro, N.C., before moving to Lincolnton at the age of five. She was a graduate of High Point College in 1966, where she was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority. She was employed by the State of N.C. for 30 years, working primarily in Gastonia and Charlotte, N.C., where she retired as a field tax auditor with the Employment Security Commission. Mrs. Barker was a member of First United Methodist Church of Lincolnton. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, sister-in-law and friend. She loved her family very much and was an integral part of all of their lives. Her favorite activities included those that involved family (watching her 13 year old granddaughter, Kaitlynn, dance at competitions, watching her 3 year old grandson, Campbell, play soccer, or watching her 1 year old granddaughter, Carrington, discover the world around her) and reading.
